DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF GUIDANCE COUNSELOR

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF GUIDANCE COUNSELOR
Under general provision:
- Gives students at least one counseling interview during the school year which
involves preparing for, conducting of, and writing a summary of the interview.
- Conducts a follow-up counseling interview for students who will need or
request for it.
- Consults with teachers, parents, and other persons concerning data and
information about the students.
- Helps with the placement of students in the proper section and curriculum year
level.
- Conducts personal interview to prospective dropouts.
- Gives individual testing of students when necessary which includes preparation,
administration, and interpretation.
- Makes referrals to local officials such as the provincials or municipal health
officers, chief of police, and other persons from outside agencies.
- Undertakes group testing and interprets results.
- Gathers and distributes informational materials like bulletins, prospectus, and
the like about colleges and universities.
- Invites and schedules resource persons to give information about colleges or
universities and various job opportunities.
- Helps the individuals placement of students in the occupation.
- Establish good relation with the business community and communicate with
them from time to time.
- Follow-up progress of students in high schools, colleges, universities, and
places of work.
- Prepares forms, inventories, questionnaires, and other instruments needed for
gathering information about students.
- Conducts research on the development of students.
- Determine the causes of students’ disabilities and of the prevalence of absences,
dropouts, failures, etc.
- Does related work.
